The love and support this family of wonderful circus freaks lovingly give new meaning to talent and entertainment. Watching from my laptop in virtual youtube safety I never thought I would walk into this place and of course again I am so glad I was wrong.

Step right up, step right up! Don’t be shy! You are about to enter a world where anything is possible. A library. And not just any library! A performing arts library! If you ever wanted to run away and join the circus, it’s a great place to start. Of course, we also recommend attending any of our circus arts and skill toy practices, but the Creative Motion Performing Arts Library is a great place to dip your toe in to see what all the fuss is about.

For this reason it is my utmost pleasure to welcome you to the Creative Motion Performing Arts Library. If you haven’t already gotten a card, you can do so at a couple of Creative Motion events. One is the Open Stage.

Find me, Alicia, when I am not videoing the show and I will happily set you up with everything you need. There is a short application to fill out and a set of rules you get to take with you, suitable for framing or taking notes about where the Circus Freaks are appearing next.

I also am available at Clown Gym on Thursday nights.

Cards are $5/year. Titles are available for check out two weeks at a time. If you need a little more time, talk to me. We can renew your materials and extend your lending limit for another couple of weeks unless someone else is waiting to read or watch the same thing you have.

So, now you have a card. What’s next? Well, you can check the contents of the catalog online, here. If you click on “search” without putting any keywords in the system, a list of all the titles in the collection will be brought up. If you click on any given title, you can see whether it is available and, if it isn’t available, when it is due back. If you let a library volunteer know you want to reserve the book, we will put it on hold for you and get it to you when it is brought back.

Some of the money you pay for the annual membership and library card is spent on keeping the materials in good shape. Some of it is to obtain more titles for the library or replace worn or missing copies. However, books and DVDs are expensive, so the library is also able to accept donations. Not only are we willing to take your donations, we are happy to. If you have any performing arts books, DVDs, or CDs that you would like to share with us and other library members, bring them to either of the two events listed above. The gift you give us will go a long way toward helping everyone learn new skills, gain confidence, and most of all have fun!

This past Saturday, I had the honor of performing with the Circus Freaks at Ciclovia de Dallas on the Houston Street bridge. I was excited and oh so nervous! This now makes the 4th time I have ever gone out as Moxie. The first 3 times were at Open Stage with people that I know and are positively receptive of seeing a clown with a huge flower.

Yet, on Saturday, I am strolling across a bridge with bikers, small children and couples walking along. I’m outside. In my clown outfit, and clown face on. I cannot stress how natural that felt to me. I got to be me! I got to play with people, teach them how to juggle on the spot, make them crack a wide smile and stop and smell a giant sunflower. It is one thing to be a part of a festival and walk along and see some vendors, it is another pleasant surprise to see a cute clown twirling a flower and cracking up about a rubber chicken. Or to talk to a soaked clown about his checkered tweed pants. Also, seeing a Mad Biker wheeling around and smiling wide at everyone, while a lovely Clockwork Doll is introducing herself to the passersby.

One of my favorite moments was riding alongside Russ on a pedicab, honking our clown horns and saying hello to the people. We would make jokes and puns as easily as breathing. Though for every toss up, there is a down. And this down happened to be a water balloon. 3 deep buckets worth of water balloons. Once the kids saw that there were clowns on the bridge juggling, they decided that we were “too hot!” and threw them at Russ and I.

I only got a little wet while Russ, our brave Clown Leader, took the brunt force of the children’s’ antics. He fought the brave Water Balloon War of the Houston bridge with those squealing kids until every last one was gone. For the rest of the day, Russ wore his water wounds with pride and kept clowning with me and Tim the Mad Biker as well as our lovely new Clockwork Doll, Ticke.

Would I do this all over again? Absolutely!

Jon will be visiting the Creative Motion community to teach an open-topic poi workshop for all skill levels on Tuesday, April 24th at Heights Park in Richardson Texas from 5-7pm.

The two hour workshop will be guided by its participants, and cover broad range of topics including:

• Body Mechanics
• Foot Work And Spatial Awareness
• Refining Our Understanding Of Plane Awareness/Control
• Framing Poi And Body Parts
• Inswings, Inversions, Insides, Etc.
• Body Tracing And Poi Snakes.

The workshop is open to all skill levels.
Beginners should familiarize themselves with the basics outlined in this video:
